| East Pensacola DogSmithChristina Horne
With a degree in Psychology and endless passion for rescuing and caring for animals, Christina has devoted her life and career to making a difference in the lives of pets and their owners. "My passion is working with giant breed dogs" she says, and since she spent her early career working with marine mammals she knows a thing or two about "giant breeds." Christina lives her passion every day with her dogs Copper, a Bullmastiff, and Kehlir a Dalmatian/Aussie mix. She rescued both dogs from shelters along with Copper's best friend, Beowulf, Christina's Turkish/Angora cat. Copper is now retired from her job as Christina's assistant pet-human instructor specializing in working with "aggressive" dogs. Copper also helped Christina "socialize" student dogs and puppies in her training classes. Now Copper spends her time at the beach and hanging out with Beowulf. Now that Copper has retired, Christina is busy training Kehlir, the most recent addition to her household. Because Kehlir is deaf, Christina is using visual cues and sign language to communicate. According to Christina, "I got Kehlir because, after having been adopted, he was returned to the shelter because of his special needs. He is a fantastic dog and challenges my training skills but he is a fast learner and a great companion." Based on her education and years of experience training such a wide variety of animals, Christina recognizes the huge potential and payoff in improving our relationship with our pets. "When I train, I am giving animals and people the skills they need to commit to a lifelong partnership. My goal is to show people that if they spend enough time bonding with their pets, they can take do so much more together. The rewards are huge." Christina says she became a dog trainer because she loves to see the "light turn on" when an animal or person suddenly understands what she's teaching or when they master a new skill. "I love to be part of the learning process and make it as fun as possible," she says.
